A Procrastinator, a Thief, an Athlete, a Clergyman and a Politician sat on a dock. All five decided to jump in the lake. How many people get wet? The answer is……………….. zero. Yes all five decided to jump in the lake but until somebody acts on that decision, nobody gets wet.
First Question to ask yourself :
How would my life be better? I think my life would be so much better if I would just ………………….. The answer is to stop thinking about it and start doing something toward that goal.
Take action. It’s that simple. A lot of people have ideas, but too few actually people do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Do it today.
Sometimes I find myself avoiding starting something because I think that it will take too much time. And then a few months later I think about that same thing again and I realize that if I had only started back when I first thought about it, I may either be done with it by now or at least made progress.
For a simple example think of your home. Maybe it seems like a daunting task to clean up your closet or your garage, but if you don’t start, there is only one guarantee, neither your closet nor your garage will ever be clean.
Stop thinking about doing it, and take action. Maybe you’ll make a little progress today, then when tomorrow comes a little more progress, eventually a project that seemed so daunting will get done. Have the courage to start. Call on your inner strength to continue when the challenge intensifies, and most importantly have the humility to ask for help from someone else who has succeeded in reaching your desired outcome.
Time keeps moving forward and there’s nothing we can do to change that. There is however, something we can do about what we do with our time. Someday, years from now, I hope to look back and say that even though I didn’t accomplish all I hoped, at least I gave my best effort and didn’t back off because I was afraid it might take too much time.
