I like to believe that many of us reach a point in our lives when the laws of society are no longer necessary as a guide to every day living.
The purpose of law is to protect people in a society from other people in the same society. If we pose no threat to other people then what is the need for laws? If we have no desire whatsoever to do anything harmful to our fellow citizens or place them in danger in any way, then laws become irrelevant.
Adopting a life of virtue gives us freedom. Our lives become more full when our virtue keeps us free from worry. When people are virtuous, laws are unnecessary. When people are corrupt, laws are necessary. Lead a virtuous life.
